The Past Continuous Tense


*Form:
I/he/she/it      +was  +v-----ing
We/you/they  +were+v-----ing

*Use:

1-We use it to say that somebody was in the middle of doing something. EX: I was reading a story at 10 o'clock yesterday.
Ex: We were playing football.

2-It also expresses an action that was happening,then another action interrupted it.
EX: While(As) I was reading , the light turned off.
EX:The light turned off while I was reading 
EX:When the light turned off,I was reading.
EX:I was reading when the light turned off

3-We also use it to talk about two actions which were happening at the same time.

EX:While I was playing football , my father was watching me.

*Negative:
We put (not(n't) to was or were.
EX:I  was not(wasn't) swimming.
EX:We were not(weren't) studying

*Question:

-Yes or No question:

We invert the subject and the verb to be (was or were)
EX:Was he sleeping at 12 o'clock yesterday night?
Yes ,he was.Or No, he wasn't.
EX;Were you going to the club when I saw you yesterday?
Yes, I was.Or No, I wasn't.

*Wh question:

EX:What were you doing at 5 o'clock yesterday?
