The Past Simple Tense

*Use: 
1-It is used to talk about actions that happened in the past.

*Form:
We add (ed/ied /d) for regular verbs:

EX: I played football yesterday.
EX: They arrived late last month.
EX: The police man tried to solve the mystery.We ommitted (y) here because it is preceeded by a consonant.But if it is preceded by a vowel ,don't omit (y).

EX:We stayed for two days. 

*Regular verbs must be memorized :
go----------went 
catch-------caught ..............etc.
She went to school one hour ago.

*Negative:
We  put didn't with all pronouns before verb.
EX: I didn't sleep last night.(didn't is followed by the infinitive)

*Question:
Yes or No question:
Did + subject +inf. ...?
EX: Did you buy a car? Yes, I did.  or No ,I didn't

Wh question:
EX: What did you eat yesterday?
      I ate fish yesterday

*Increase your information: 
-We use the past simple to talk about a habit in the past.
-We use the the adverbs of frequency of the present simple   tense here.

EX:I always visited my grandfather when I was young.

Or we use (used to +inf) instead:
EX:I used to visit my grandfather when I was young.
